There is something so special about taking a quiet moment to sit with the journals we’ve already finished. We often get so caught up in the “next” project—the next kit, the next theme, the next blank page—that we forget what a treasure trove our past work can be.
Today, I’ve been doing exactly that. I’ve put together a Flip-Through Playlist of some of my favorite past journals, and honestly, it’s been like visiting old friends.
Why I Revisit My Old Journals
Revisiting isn’t just about nostalgia; it’s about inspiration. When I flip through a journal from a year or two ago, I often find a combination of lace and ephemera that I’d completely forgotten about. It’s the best way to get out of a “creative rut”—the answers are often already there in your previous work!
Focusing on the “Tuck Spot”
One thing I’ve been particularly looking at today is tuck spots. They are the little secrets of a junk journal, aren’t they? A place to hide a private note, a pressed flower, or a vintage postcard.
As I was looking back, I noticed a few favorite styles…
- The Layered Lace Tuck: Using a sturdy piece of vintage lace as a side pocket—simple, breathable, and so elegant.
- The Hidden Corner: Using an altered paperclip or a folded piece of tea-stained ledger paper to create a spot where you least expect it.
- The Fabric Flip: Using fabric scraps to create a soft tuck that adds texture and bulk in the best way possible.
Join Me for a Flip-Through
I’ve gathered these journals into a single playlist so we can potter through them together. Whether you’re looking for a specific layout idea or just want some background company while you craft, I hope these pages bring you a bit of peace today.
What is your favorite way to create a tuck spot? Do you prefer a sturdy cardstock pocket or something more delicate like vellum or lace? I’d love to hear your thoughts in the comments.
Warmly,
Louise x
